Veterans Day Weekend

On Saturday, November 10 and Sunday, November 11 we will offer free admission to all veterans! Come support local veterans and enjoy some aviation activites including:

  • Ham Radio Broadcasts

Bob Hawkins, from the Texas American Legion Amateur Radio Club will bring their amateur radio club to operate the special event station, W1V,  whiskey-one-victor under the shadow of our B-17 Flying Fortress. Ham Radio operators have a long history with America's military.  For example, Senator Barry Goldwater, a ham operator himself,  used his home station to help veterans in Vietnam to reach their families in the US by connecting his radio to the telephone system.  He even bore the long distance expense from Arizona out of his own pocket. Ham radio also has a bright future.  There is even a ham station aboard the ISS that is used so that astronauts can talk direct to elementary students by scheduled radio contact. Say hello to Texas American Legion Amateur Radio Club (TXALARC) when you come on  Veteran's Day weekend. They might just give you a chance to take the microphone!

  • WWI Poppy Art Project
  • Hangar Talk featuring Bell Cobra (Saturday Only)
  • Veterans Day Parade - Downtown Houston (Sunday Only)
  • New Temporary Exhibition: Wood and Canvas | The WWI Aviation Art of Jim Dietz
