Board of Directors

Steven R. Biegel

Steve Biegel began his commercial real estate career in 1981 as an attorney with Andrews Kurth. Throughout his 17-year tenure with A&K, Steve advised tenants and landlords on complex lease transactions in Houston and throughout the U.S., including over 5 million square feet of office leases.

He also represented developers, investors and institutional lenders in all aspects of commercial real estate acquisition, development, financing and disposition, and worked on numerous master limited partnerships, REITs and other financial market transactions.

Having practiced law in Houston throughout the 80’s and 90’s, Steve experienced all phases of Houston’s boombust real estate market. Accordingly, his depth of legal experience includes not only the structuring, negotiation and closing of complex real estate transactions, but also working through complicated restructurings, refinancings, workouts, and foreclosures. Steve is the former Chair of the Real Estate Law Section of the Houston Bar Association (98-99), is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and The Houston Bar Foundation.

Steve previously chaired Studley’s Law Firm Practice Group, which consists of over 30 senior professionals from Studley offices throughout the country who each specialize in law firm representation. The LFPG meets regularly to discuss issues and trends relating to our law firm practice, and publishes The Legal Tenant, Studley’s biannual newsletter designed to provide law firms with the tools to make prudent and informed real estate decisions.

In 1998, Steve left the practice of law to launch his career in tenant representation, quickly establishing himself as one of the top brokers in Houston. He earned recognition from the Houston Business Journal as a Commercial Real Estate “Heavy Hitter” in 2001, 2002, 2004 and 2007 and as an “MVP” in 2003, was also one of three finalists for the NAIOP Office Broker of the Year Award in 2003 and chaired the Houston Office Leasing Brokers Association in 2005. His unique combination of experience as a lawyer and broker executing complex transactions makes Steve an invaluable resource in solving the corporate real estate needs of our clients.

In 2006, Steve was honored by the Houston Bar Foundation with its annual Outstanding Contribution by an Individual for his services provided to the Houston Bar Association and Houston Volunteer Lawyers Program.  Steve is an active member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church where he currently serves on the Executive Committee and has previously served as Lay Leader and Chair of the Student Ministry Council. He currently serves on the board of the Lone Star Flight Museum, A 2nd Cup and Avalon Property Owners Association, and is a regular volunteer with The Get Together and WorkFaith Connection. Steve is also a member the advisory boards of the BBVA Compass Houston Region and The Gathering of Men Houston.

Steve received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree (with majors in finance and real estate) and Doctor of Jurisprudence with Honors from the University of Texas at Austin.
