Lone Star Flight Museum (LSFM) is relocating from Galveston to Houston’s Ellington Airport this summer. Opening Labor Day Weekend, the new 130,000 sq. ft. facility will combine the Museum’s renowned active aircraft collection with dynamic historic hands-on exhibits. Visitors will find themselves in immersive displays and interactive experiences that illustrate the principles of flight and highlighting the rich history of aviation in Texas.


Aircraft Collection

Two 30,000 square foot hangars house more than 20 aircraft including: Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress, North American B-25 Mitchell, Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, Chance Vought F4U Corsair, Douglas SBD Dauntless, and Douglas DC-3. Visiting aircraft are always changing so keep coming back to see what’s new.

Galleries

The new Museum includes three galleries that feature interactive and educational exhibits that focus on concepts essential to flight, while allowing visitors to explore Texas’ rich aviation heritage.  The Flight Academy introduces visitors to the foundations of flight and aircraft design with hands-on exhibits including three replica cockpits, two hang glider simulators and a theatre featuring a film about the principles and history of flight development. The Texas Aviation Heritage Gallery  is  chronological walk through the history of aviation in Texas. Dive deeper into the story of flight in the Lone Star State through rich graphic panels and touch-screen interactives.  Within the Heritage Gallery, visitors can explore the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame honoring the men and women who have shaped the aviation world.

Aviation Learning Center

The Aviation Learning Center (ALC) is an innovative facility that immerses visitors in the energy and excitement of flight through a hands-on learning experience. Designed for students in grades 5-12, participants get a taste of aviation training, climb inside a Mooney aircraft, and pilot a simulated flight! On the weekends and after hours this space is available for family fun and interactive special event programing.

S.T.E.M. Education Programs

The basis of the Lone Star Flight Museum’s education program is engaging with science, technology, engineering and math through the lens of Texas’s aviation history. With opportunities for students at any age, our dynamic programming will educate through entertaining classes, tours and hands-on activities.
