B-26 Pilot and Renown Orthopedic Surgeon
Visionary leader in World War II and in the Operating Room

George Lane flew 65 combat missions in the Martin B-26 Marauder and was flight leader on 41 occasions. Not only did he survive four crash landings, he also completed every mission without loss or injury to any of his crew members. In addition, he pioneered protocols for the use of the B-26 in night attack missions. After he retired from the Army Air Corps, Lane pursued a career in medicine in Houston, Texas and became a leader in orthopedic surgery specializing in knee replacement techniques.
